Composite plain bearings
Composite plain bearings consist of three layers: the sliding surface, the bronze layer, and the metal substrate (also referred to as the backing). The sliding layer serves the purpose of improving the shaft’s sliding properties. During the running-in process, the PTFE/POM is transferred to the shaft, thereby exposing the sinter bronze. For this reason, the layer thickness of the bronze is a decisive factor for the total service life of a composite plain bearing.
