PPWR-compliant, transparent and traceable
The PPWR has been in force since August 12, 2026. For companies, this means, among other things, that packaging must be declared by product and transport type throughout the supply chain. The relevant information and declarations of conformity must be available for the individual packaging components. Findling Wälzlager implements these requirements through a digital information platform at ABEG-packaging.findling.com.
The use of transport packaging is of particular practical relevance here. The packaging codes specified on the delivery note can be looked up on the portal, and the corresponding declarations of conformity can be downloaded. However, downloading them is not necessary, as the data is available online at all times, including date-based versioning.
Customers can also use the respective item and batch numbers to find out which sales packaging is used and which components it consists of. The recycled content is also listed where already known. The corresponding declarations of conformity for the individual components can be downloaded directly.
This creates a kind of digital product passport that, through the future integration of the “GS1 Digital Link,” will also be accessible by scanning the packaging directly.
Suppliers are integrated into the digital system.
The system starts at the supplier level. Findling has defined approved packaging sets that can be used for deliveries. Discontinued packaging and packaging without confirmed compliance are not accepted. Optimized packaging sets, e.g. using less film, are communicated directly to the supplier, and their implementation is planned. This is highly relevant for suppliers outside Europe, particularly in Asia: they can select an approved packaging option when placing the order. The transport packaging is also selected and reported when the delivery is being prepared. As soon as the shipment is ready for dispatch, Findling therefore already knows which transport and packaging materials will actually arrive and whether they meet the requirements of the PPWR.
Dashboard documents packaging volumes in real time
A dashboard displays the quantities of packaging used over a defined period and makes the data available for analysis and reporting to the packaging registers. Both incoming and outgoing materials are accounted for, with a distinction made between domestic, EU, and non-EU countries. This is particularly necessary for reports to the packaging registers, as imported packaging material incurs additional disposal costs.
Another key metric relates to separate collection. Companies must determine what proportion of packaging is collected separately and what proportion is disposed of as residual waste. At Findling, the separate collection rate currently stands at 99.8 percent.
“We wanted to make implementing the PPWR as straightforward as possible for everyone involved,” explains Klaus Findling, Managing Director of Findling Wälzlager. “At ABEG-packaging.findling.com, we provide all relevant information digitally, clearly, and transparently for both suppliers and customers. This turns a legal requirement into a practical process.”
