Xspeed bearing technology for high performance
The products are available in the Xspeed series and designed for use in electric motors, pumps and compressors, fans, rotary encoders, and air-conditioning systems, as well as in household appliances, office equipment and other applications involving high speeds. The proven standard deep groove ball bearings from the Supra class form the basis here. Their greases and seals, which are equipment components relevant to service life, were optimized in a targeted manner to meet the requirements of high-speed applications. They are also standard design elements, meaning that the high-performance bearings are associated neither with high costs nor with long delivery times.
Since running properties play a special role in this segment, Xspeed bearings meet the highest requirements when it comes to the surface quality and profiling of the raceways. They are manufactured in tolerance class P6 with increased precision and radial runout accuracy. The bearing clearance is adapted to the high speeds by tightening the tolerance. This makes it possible to optionally adjust the residual bearing clearance based on the selection of the housing and shaft fit.
A special high-purity, viscous and quiet grease with excellent start-up behavior ensures optimum operation at high speeds. A high-performance grease for a temperature range of -40 to 150 °C is used. Bearings with a C3 bearing clearance are equipped with a highly pure grease resistant to high temperatures of up to 180 °C. This allows the optimum operating temperature to be increased once again.
At 177 °C, it still has a service life according to ASTM D 3336 of over 750 hours. The internal heating of the bearing also plays an important role in this range of applications because it changes the characteristics and thus the performance of the lubricant. The thermal factor can be reduced, however, by using the right seal.
Excellent results were achieved with the 2RSDD seal variant (axially abutting contact rubber seal guided in a groove on both sides). It was possible to reduce the internal heating by 10 °C compared to a standard RS seal, which directly affects the bearing’s service life. An even lower-friction (2RW) variant and a non-contact variant (LLB) are optionally available. Service life and comparison tests with selected types on the performance test rig have shown that the actual service life of Xspeed bearings is up to 50% above the reference values for premium bearings. The noise-test was able to demonstrate considerably lower vibration acceleration. The operating temperature was also significantly lower given identical performance parameters.
