Gut zu wissen über Radiallager
What is a Radial Bearing?
Radial bearings are a specific type of rolling-element bearing primarily designed to support radial loads. These bearings are crucial for applications where forces act predominantly perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Despite their specialization in radial loads, standard radial bearings are also capable of handling small to medium axial forces. This versatility makes them a popular choice in numerous industrial applications, from the automotive industry to the mechanical engineering industry.
What are Radial and Axial Forces?
Radial forces are forces that act perpendicular to the axis of a shaft. They play a crucial role in mechanics, especially in the design and operation of machines, as they affect the stability and smooth operation of rotating components. These forces can be caused by various factors, such as imbalances, centrifugal forces, or external loads.
Axial forces, on the other hand, act along the axis or shaft. They are also of great importance as they represent the longitudinal load on a shaft or component. Axial forces are common in screws, bolts, and other fasteners, where they hold the components together or pull them apart. In practice, it is important to consider both radial and axial forces to optimize the lifespan and efficiency of machines and structures.
For which applications are radial bearings suitable?
Radial bearings are ideal for applications where supporting radial loads is essential. They are frequently used in machines and equipment that rotate at high speeds, such as electric motors, gearboxes, and pumps. Thanks to their ability to carry both light and heavy loads, they are versatile and offer reliable performance in various industrial applications.
What types of radial bearings are there?
Typical representatives are deep groove ball bearings, cylindrical roller bearings or spherical roller bearings.
- In radial deep groove ball bearings, the balls run in deep grooves in the outer ring and inner ring. The radius of the grooves is only slightly larger than the ball radius. Radial deep groove ball bearings are available open or sealed. They are particularly versatile, insensitive in operation, easy to maintain and very economical.
- Radial spherical roller bearings have high dimensional stability, absorb high radial and medium axial forces and are wear-resistant despite possible vibration. They have a high insensitivity to misalignment and shock loads.
- Radial cylindrical roller bearings are extremely load-bearing and very rigid. In addition to high radial forces, cylindrical roller bearings can also absorb axial forces when used as support or fixed bearings. The radial load is transmitted via the raceways.
